Miss Verda's Story of Hope
Miss Verda grew up in an alcoholic home and by the time that she was 17 she was an alcoholic herself. When she was 35 she became addicted to crack as well. During her addictions she was manipulated and taken advantage of based on her addiction and her mental state of mind. Whenever Miss Verda would receive disability money, her family would let her stay in their home to use her money until it ran out and then would kick her out, making her homeless time and time again. This cycle continued for many years. She was abused and asked to do many things in order to get her drugs and a warm place to stay. Miss Verda came to the Healing House in 2007 and for the first time in her life she felt loved and valued. Since she has been here, she has grown not only out of her addiction, but in her relationship with Christ. God has also brought restoration within her family so that they now respect, value, and support her in the proper way. We thank God for Miss Verda who has now been with us for almost 4 years. The Healing House and Bridge of Hope are her permanent home. She is now a part of this ministry and an encouragement and shining light to other ladies who are seeking the hope that she now has in Christ.
